From “Quantum Leap” to transmedia storytelling, Pratt charts a new frontier in entertainment

Award-winning producer, writer, and director Deborah M. Pratt is no stranger to building worlds. After decades of breaking ground in Hollywood, she’s now channeling her creative legacy into a bold new venture: Warrior One, a cross-platform sci-fi epic rooted in her Vision Quest novel series.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth reborn after catastrophic quakes in 2147 AD (or Year 118 AQ), Warrior One unfolds in a fractured world where newly formed continents like Atlantia are home to hybrid beings called Splicers. These human-animal hybrids have evolved to harness mystical forces known as the Visionistic Arts. But peace is short-lived. A brutal, biologically-based army known as the Black Guard awakens and turns against humanity, seeking total domination.
At the heart of this world is Jetta A, an 18-year-old survivor whose family is murdered by the Black Guard. With her droid companion Bot at her side, she rises from trauma to become the first true resistance leader—Warrior One.
A Story Beyond the Page
The Warrior One graphic novel serves as the launchpad for an ambitious transmedia franchise. Pratt has teamed up with scripter David Campiti, artist Will Conrad, colorist Candice Han, and designer Kathryn S. Renta to bring her vivid universe to life in visual form. But this isn’t a one-off.
The graphic novel is just the beginning. The team is already laying the groundwork for an interactive game that will allow players to customize their warrior, master Visionistic Arts, and reclaim Atlantia’s capital from enemy forces. A TV series and feature film adaptation are also in development, creating a roadmap that spans multiple platforms and genres.
Building the Future of Entertainment
This isn’t just about expanding a story—it’s about rewriting how stories are told. “We’re not just creating characters,” Pratt has said in past interviews. “We’re building a new blueprint for how stories live across books, games, and screens.”
That philosophy fits perfectly with her long-standing mission: empowering underrepresented voices and challenging traditional media structures.
Deborah Pratt: A Legacy of Firsts
Deborah M. Pratt began her career in Hollywood at just 20 years old, after being discovered in a national talent search that took her from Chicago to NBC Los Angeles. With a double major in Psychology and Theatre, she quickly made a name for herself in acting, writing, and producing.
Her resume is stacked with milestones: co-creator, executive producer, and head writer of the original Quantum Leap (1989), where she also voiced the iconic computer Ziggy and wrote the show’s memorable intros. She later co-created The Net (1998) for USA Network and directed Cora Unashamed (2000) for BBC’s Masterpiece Theater. Most recently, she served as executive producer on the Quantum Leap reboot (2022) and directed multiple episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, including the Season 19 finale.
Along the way, she’s earned five Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe nomination, and accolades including the Golden Block Award, Lillian Gish Award, and multiple international film festival wins. Her screenplays have sold to major studios like Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, and Universal.
But it’s her advocacy off-screen that sets her apart. A fierce supporter of women and minorities in entertainment, Pratt has spearheaded mentorship programs across the U.S., U.K., France, and Africa. She has served on the boards of the Writers Guild of America and multiple charitable organizations, and continues to work with the DGA, PGA, SAG/AFTRA, and the Television Academy.
The Vision Quest Continues
Warrior One is the natural evolution of Pratt’s vision. It pulls from the rich world she created in the Vision Quest book series—four novels already in print, with a fifth (Salvation) on the way this fall. The story speaks to survival, legacy, and what it means to lead in the face of overwhelming odds.
The Warrior One website offers early access to the novels and teasers for the upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Merchandise, email sign-ups, and investment opportunities are already live, hinting at a vibrant community forming around the franchise.
Why It Matters
In a time when entertainment often feels recycled, Warrior One offers something rare: an original universe built by a creator with a proven track record and a passion for innovation. More than just a sci-fi story, it’s a movement—one rooted in representation, resilience, and the power of imagination.
As Pratt continues to push boundaries, her mission remains the same: “To create stories that inspire, challenge, and reflect the world we live in—and the one we want to build next.”
