The “Little Mermaid” star and the “I’m Geekin” rapper, who recently welcomed a baby boy, have ended their relationship. On Thursday, DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., shared the news via Instagram. “After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have chosen to go our separate ways,” he wrote. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but we believe it’s the best way forward for both of us.”
DDG expressed his gratitude for their time together, adding, “I cherish the memories we’ve made and the love we shared.”
Halle Bailey, one-half of the duo Chloë x Halle and star of “The Color Purple,” has yet to comment publicly. The pair first sparked dating rumors in January 2022 and confirmed their relationship by appearing together at the 2022 BET Awards.
In an interview with Essence in August 2022, Bailey shared that she had initially known DDG from his YouTube channel, and their romance began through private messages on social media. When asked if she was in love, she confirmed, “Yes. For sure I am.”
After facing online drama and rumors of a breakup, the couple’s relationship deepened, leading to speculation of a pregnancy in the fall of 2023. Reports surfaced that Bailey had avoided photographers at the MTV Video Music Awards and was cautious with her interactions. Despite DDG denying the rumors on Snapchat, Bailey later confirmed the arrival of their baby boy, Halo, in an emotional Instagram post: “Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest gift of 2023 was my son. Welcome to the world, my Halo.”
Bailey and DDG remained private during her pregnancy but shared moments from their new lives as parents, including a video of their son on a kiddie ride that became viral last month.
DDG emphasized in his announcement that he and Bailey will continue to co-parent and remain close despite the breakup. “Our love for each other is still strong,” he wrote. “We’re best friends and will always care deeply for one another.”
