In a surprising twist, a junk dealer in Capri unearthed an original Picasso portrait worth £5 million, hidden for decades in a cellar. Luigi Lo Rosso, who discovered the painting in 1962, proudly displayed it in his home in Pompeii, unaware of its immense value.
Years later, his son Andrea, intrigued by art, noticed Picasso’s distinctive signature on the portrait. After seeking confirmation from experts, including renowned art detective Maurizio Seracini and graphologist Cinzia Altieri, the painting was authenticated as a genuine Picasso piece, believed to depict Dora Maar, Picasso’s muse.
“There is no doubt that the signature is his,” Altieri confirmed. The once-dismissed treasure, now verified, is currently stored in a Milan vault awaiting official recognition from the Picasso Foundation.
Interestingly, Picasso had ties to Capri, and the painting aligns with his artistic period from 1930 to 1936, adding another layer of history to the remarkable find.
